About the Job
This opportunity is for a specific 1-day event in London (not central), where we need a large chef facilitation team of 24 chefs. It is a charity event (you will paid for your work) where we will work with a 500-strong workforce (one of our client's employees) to cook for as many homeless and vulnerable people in London and surrounds as is possible on one day. All food produced at the venue will be sent to FareShare, our charity distribution partner's, They will take the food into their central London distribution centre, from where they will then distributed the food to a number of shelters/day centres/hostels etc, for those in need, primarily homeless.
Your role on the event
You would be one of the chefs in our chef facilitation team. Each chef will be responsible for looking after two sub team of participants (15 people in each team) while they produce the food they are required to prepare. We anticipate a total chef team of approx 24 chefs. The specifics of the chef facilitation role will be outlined in detail to those joining our team for the event, but in general is it a mentoring role, where you work with other chefs to support the client cooking for the end recipient - you need to ensure your sub teams produce the food required! What we are looking for in our chefs:
- Good culinary skill – Ideally some years in professional kitchens, minimum 1 year (unless you are a final year student at catering college that has been referred to us by a catering college, or a specifically talented young or self-taught chef)
- Professional (direct and authoritative) but friendly demeanour
- Good people skills with a keen (but subtle) sense of humour – important that this is balanced by the ability to keep humour in check and ability to focus on getting the job done
- Passionate about food, cooking, teaching others, helping others, doing great work for charity
- Able to mentor others – we want our chefs to show our clients how to do things, and then support them in doing it, not do it for them – can’t be too controlling or particular on culinary technique - the menu is easy, its getting it all done in the timeframe that prresents the challenge
- Hard working
- Strict adherence to food safety hygiene practices required - all facilitation chefs to have level 2 food hygiene certification, and will be required to perform usual checks on the food in production, with in our HACCP process for the event.
- Ability to handle the pressure of a "mass cook" - there will be lots going on at the same time, lots of questions asked by participants and lots of food being cooked, which needs to be managed by you and the teams you are looking after. You need to be on top of things at all times
- Well organised

I'm Interested...
Completion of this form in no way implies you will be invited to participate, it simply alerts us to your interest and gives us information about you so we can assess if you would be a good fit for us. If you don't hear back from us, it will be because (1) we have already filled our chef quota, (b) we don't think you meet our needs for this particular opportunity. If we do contact you it will be with next steps including preparation for the event, induction document, rates of pay etc. We may invite you to attend a chef induction meeting in London where the whole team will be briefed on the event, operations, menu and recipes. This would be paid time, travel is not included. We may decide to do this electronically depending on circumstances.
